Flight & Wind Parameters
Return-to-Home Assessment
safeComfortable margin — estimated 43.3% battery remaining after landing home, above your 20% reserve.
Pilot Action Items:
- Current mission time budget looks safe to continue, subject to your own telemetry.
- Re-run this check if wind picks up or you fly further from home.
Why battery alone does not tell you the whole story
Your drone's own battery percentage assumes still air. A headwind on the way back can meaningfully slow your groundspeed and increase power draw at the same time — the two effects compound, not just add. This calculator estimates both together instead of just extrapolating your outbound flight time.
How the estimate works
It converts your wind speed and direction into a headwind or tailwind component along the bearing back to home, recalculates your effective groundspeed, and estimates the extra battery a headwind costs beyond your no-wind flight-time rating. The result is an advisory estimate, not a substitute for your drone's own RTH/telemetry system.
When to trust your drone instead of this calculator
Always defer to your drone's own live telemetry and RTH system once airborne — this tool is for pre-flight and mid-mission planning judgment calls, using your best estimate of wind and distance, not a certified flight computer.
